Restore your smile
For those wishing to improve their smile, veneers are the perfect option. Dental veneers are thin, enamel-like casings covering the front teeth. They are stain-resistant, nearly indistinguishable from real teeth, and can help improve the appearance of your smile and protect your dental surface.
Are Veneers Right for You?
Veneers look just like your natural teeth and can be used to alter the size, shape, and color of your teeth. Veneers can be used to improve any of the following characteristics of your teeth including:
- Worn-down teeth
- Broken, chipped, or cracked teeth
- Discolored or whitening-resistant teeth
- Crooked or irregularly shaped teeth
- Teeth with gaps
- Large fillings
- Teeth with little remaining tooth structure
Veneer Types
- Composite veneers: Composites made of tooth-colored resin are easier to apply and less expensive.
- Porcelain veneers: Porcelain veneers are thin shells of porcelain adhered to the outer surface of the tooth. This type of veneer is more expensive than composites but can last almost twice as long.
Veneers vs. Crowns or Orthodonics
Veneers might not be the best choice in some circumstances. For instance, orthodontics may be a better option than veneers if you have teeth that are considerably out of alignment or a huge gap between them. Additionally, it may be preferable to reconstruct your teeth with crowns that completely encase the tooth if you have significant loss of tooth structure due to trauma or decay.
What to Expect When Getting Veneers
- Consultation: We start by performing a thorough oral examination, including X-rays to determine if veneers are right for you.
- Fabrication: Next, we remove a super-thin layer of enamel and take a mold of the teeth and send the impression to a lab to create your custom veneers. They should be ready in about two weeks. Until then, we place temporary veneers. When your permanent veneers arrive, we double-check the fit and color and make any necessary adjustments. We then clean, polish, and roughen your natural teeth.
- Bonding: The next step is bonding. We use water or glycerin and light-activated cement that hardens instantly to adhere the veneers to your teeth. Finally, we remove the excess cement, check the fit and your bite, and make any last modifications.
Veneers Aftercare
Some sensitivity is normal for a few weeks after getting your veneers. Brush and floss twice daily, using a non-abrasive toothpaste, and regular checkups remain important. With proper care, you can enjoy your new veneers for up to 15 years.
