Cleaning & Checkups
Regular dental cleanings are among the most important things you can do to improve the health of your teeth and gums. We recommend coming in for a cleaning twice each year.
During your checkup and cleaning, our dentists will thoroughly examine your mouth for any problems like receding gums, cavities and tooth decay. We may also take X-rays to check for problems including impacted teeth, abscesses, or decay between the teeth.
Our talented hygienists will remove plaque and tartar then polish and floss your teeth, leaving you with a clean, healthy smile.
Most patients who have regular cleanings experience no discomfort during a cleaning. However, if you’re nervous about pain or sensitivity during a cleaning, let us know. We may use a topical anesthetic or other measures to reduce discomfort.
Teeth Whitening
Many people are self-conscious about the shade of their teeth, which can become discolored for a variety of reasons, from food and drink to age or genetics. Professional whitening can erase stains and brighten teeth by several shades.
Teeth whitening is a simple procedure that can make a dramatic difference to your smile. While over the counter whitening kits are available, you’ll get a more long-lasting and visible result from a professional whitening with custom trays.
When you come to us for teeth whitening, we will make an impression of your teeth and provide you with a whitening tray to take home that is custom-fit for your mouth. After the whitening treatment, we will give you instructions on how to maintain your new color.
It is important to note that some people may experience tooth sensitivity after bleaching. This is generally temporary, but we will discuss any concerns you have before we start treatment.
Crowns & Bridges
Crowns and bridges are prosthetics that correct a smile with missing or damaged teeth. Unlike dentures — which can be taken out — crowns and bridges are cemented to your existing teeth or implants.
A crown is used to entirely cover or “cap” a damaged tooth. We may recommend a crown for the following reasons:
- Restore a fractured tooth or protect a tooth from fracturing
- Cover a discolored or poorly shaped tooth, or to cover a dental implant
- In lieu of a large filling when there isn’t enough tooth remaining
- Protect a tooth that has had a root canal
Bridges replace one or more missing teeth. It is important to take action on missing teeth, as gaps may lead to gum disease, and eventually damage your bite by causing your other teeth to move into the empty spaces.
Root Canal
A root canal is a treatment used to repair and save a tooth that is badly decayed or infected. A tooth’s nerve and pulp can become irritated, inflamed, and infected due to deep decay, repeated dental procedures on a tooth, or large fillings, a crack, or a chip in the tooth. It also can happen because of trauma to the face.
During a root canal procedure, the nerve and pulp of the tooth are removed and the inside is cleaned and sealed. Without treatment, the tissue surrounding the tooth will become infected and an abscess may form.
Root canal procedures have the reputation of being painful. But the procedure itself is no more painful than having a filling placed.
